Symbolism & Identity

Check out what one of our students has been working on! In Room 12, we've been diving into symbolism - what it means to us as individuals, and where we see can see it in day to day life and culture.

Before Room 12 starts their official Art Exhibition mural, we all made symbols which we think represents ourselves and we put geometric art in the background. I chose to draw a Snow Globe for my main drawing but their is a whole lot more symbols inside the Globe which represents me perfectly.

Solar System Projects

Hello everyone! Room 12 has been hard at work in Week 9. We've just recently begun some projects on our Solar System. Each group chose a specific planet that they would like to learn more about. Be sure to tune in next week to see the finished product! They have 2 parts for this assignment:

Part 1: Choose a planet and create a paper mache example of their planet.

Part 2: Create a research report on some interesting aspects of their chosen.

Check out some of the photos below of what we've created!

The 4 C's of Isolation

Here in Room 12, we know it's important during this time to be productive & creative.

That's why we came up with our Extra's list that focus on the 4 C's of Isolation - please read below!

Challenge: We have lots of time on our hands - this is a perfect opportunity to learn a new skill!

Create: Just because we're indoors doesn't mean we aren't limited to what we can create!

Connect: Despite being on lockdown, it's important that we connect with our whanau and peers in any non-physical way. Socializing is not only fun, it's important to our mental health!

Contribute: Helping out around the house with our Whanau is an important step on lockdown to maintain clutter. (As my mother used to say, a clean house makes for a clean head!)

Please check out the full list below!

Home Learning Week 1

Welcome all to Room 12's Blog! Because of the current COVID-19 epidemic, our school has switched to Home Learning where students & teachers meet online to continue to improve on all subjects!

Though it's been a little tough transitioning from in-person to online, there are many positives and negatives our students have found whilst experimenting with the new program.

Feel free to check out some of the recent blog posts from the students in Room 12 to learn more!

Below you can find some photos of us on our Google Meet & our Google Class Site. :)

Be safe everyone!

Room 12's Assembly

Hello fellow Bloggers!

Last week, Room 12 was in charge of our Assembly last week.

This is what was included:

-> Fun Minute to Win It games for our younger students!
-> Lot's of Zumba for Physical Activity!
-> A quick tutorial on how to wash your hands properly!
-> A fun game for teachers (to be pranked by Room 12!)

Overall, Room 12 came out on top with a well organized, fun assembly for all of Glen Taylor School! We also shared what we have been working on through Identity, Maths & Reading.

If you had to run an assembly, what would you like to include?

Daily Five

Students in Room 12 have begun their Daily Five reading time - where we have a chance to increase our stamina through literacy activities.

Daily Five includes activities that focus on Reading Independently, Reading to a Buddy,  Listening to a Buddy, Word Work, and Working on Writing.

Yesterday we began our 'Working on Writing' activities. As a group, we created an Acrostic Poem that focused on our Identity aspect at school.

Stay tuned for some awesome results from the Students in Room 12!

Welcome back to School!

Kia Ora and welcome back to another term in Room 12 at Glen Taylor School! With a medium-size class with lots of wiggle room, we'll have many opportunities for experiential learning throughout the year.

'Experiential' opportunities mean students will have the chance to try more authentic & practical lessons. With our Cultural Day coming up, our large classroom will allow us to learn lots about countries all over the world!

If you have the chance, please revisit our blog this term to see how our students connect with each other, their learning, and others all around the globe!
